Valentines day engagement, now what?

With engagement season generally happening between December to February, over 40 % of couples will pop the question during this time. Alongside Christmas and New Year, Valentines day is another one of the most popular days to get engaged. With a day that is already romantic and about love, what better way to gain a sparkly new engagement ring, as well as a bouquet of gorgeous red roses and maybe a box of your favourite chocolates! If you’re a true romantic then this day is the perfect day!

Well, any day that someone proposes is pretty special and if you are one of the lucky ones that gained a new sparkler last month, then many congratulations! You’re engaged to be married! Now what I hear you shouting!?

First things first, you’ll want to enjoy your engagement. It’s probably all a bit surreal at the moment and there are so many things to think about. Although you’re going to be planning a pretty special event in your lives and probably want to have the wedding that you’ve always dreamed of, sit back for a while, and really enjoy the fact that you just got engaged.

So what next?

Tell your family and friends if not done so already!

You’re probably bursting to tell the world, you’ll want to announce it all on Instagram and Facebook, but remember to tell those the closest to you first. It means so much more via a phone call or in person if you can, rather than them finding out via your social media updates. Then tell everyone else!

Take time to be together and celebrate

Once all the congratulations cards have come in, the phone calls have slowed down and people have stopped messaging you, take time to do things together.

A romantic dinner at home, a walk in the country and (fingers crossed very soon!) a night out. Just be you and enjoy your time as a couple. Most of all, celebrate together. When you’ve done all this, then of course, you’ll want to celebrate with family and friends as soon as you can and that’s going to be big! There’s plenty of time to drink that bubbly!

Get your ring insured and resized if needed

With a quick phonecall, add your ring to your home and contents insurance if you already have this or find a suitable insurance provider that will insure your ring for you. You do not want to lose that lovely new sparkler. If it is a little bit loose, ensure you take it to your local jewellers who will be more than happy to resize it for you.

Look after your hands

Ok, so maybe not so obvious, but if you’re showing off your gorgeous new ring then you will want your hands to be in tip top condition. Start with a regular manicure and a natural nude nail polish so as to not detract away from your diamond. The perfect at home pamper session! After all, your ring is the star of the show at the moment!

Take a moment to breathe!

That’s right, there’s no rush to go full steam ahead into the wedding planning. Have a few weeks away from all of this before you even start to think about it.
